This study comes to a very startling conclusion that approximately 75% of US oil requirements could be met from conversion of waste material to liquid fuels. See page 15 of the study.
My opinion is that maybe 30% as follows
10% Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)
10% Ag Waste
10% Forest waste + other
If anyone has any additional information please contact me.
Either way Waste to Fuel is an important technology and should be deployed ASAP.
The only operating full scale plant is the CWT plant in Carthage. My information says the oil costs about $80 / bbl because CWT must pay Con Ag for the feed stock.
It seems that waste to fuel can be done for $20 to $40 / bbl assuming waste is zero cost delivered to a plant.

SUPPOSE THIS IDEA COULD SAVE THE WORLD ???
Several weeks ago a friend and I were having our usual ‘save the world’ discussion and my friend mentioned an interesting article he read in ‘Discover’ magazine. The article, ‘Anything into oil’ highlights some new scientific breakthroughs that allow any carbon based material to be converted into oil. My first reaction was probably the same as most people would have - I was highly skeptical.

Turkey Fuel? Factory to Turn Guts Into Crude Oil
National Geographic
11/25/2003
As Americans prepare to gobble down 45 million turkeys on Thursday, a factory in Carthage, Missouri, is turning the feathers and innards of the feted bird into a clean-burning fuel oil. Changing World Technologies (CWT), a New York environmental technology company that is behind the project, also has plans to turn the organic waste from chickens, cows, hogs, onions, and Parmesan cheese into light crude oil—and those are just the some of CWT's proposed ventures.
